Styling Star Update

It took longer than expected, but I've officially finished the main storyline of Styling Star. It was a wonderful journey! However, I'm not posting this just to tell you that.

End credits pic.
Let's just ignore all of the guys in the back with their generic t-shirts and focus on how pretty all of the girls look, since I actually bothered with making them look nice.
...though Oliver's actually looking pretty hot, too.
Of course, finishing the story means that I finally unlocked the stage costume designs.
So here they are! I'm quite happy with them.
Oh yeah, I decided to call the group Muse. No, that's not intended as a Love Live reference, I just like the name. I originally wanted to do something with their initials, but I couldn't come up with anything good, so Muse it is!
Anyway, I said I'd put these up on Design Centre when I got them, so I have. I haven't made any others yet, so it's just these three for now. They're also only available as full sets for the moment, but I'll probably be uploading the individual pieces at some point...if I'm not too lazy to.
Here's Rosie's costume.
Yolanda's costume.
Alina's costume. The red/pink part actually wasn't planned. That part was originally going to be yellow, but I just couldn't get it to work, so I started messing around with other colors. Landed on 'raspberry pink' and...surprisingly it looked nice! And very fruity. Soooo I went with it. I think this one actually ended up being my favorite of the three.

I also updated my Shopdo, but before I show you the new outfits, I want to mention some cool things that I noticed when the time came to design the stage costumes.

So, first: you can delete stuff from your design scrapbook without deleting it from Design Centre. Which means that if you need to clear up space for new designs, you can delete your old ones, but people will still be able to buy the old designs. Obviously you can still delete stuff from Design Centre, but it's a separate thing, which is very cool! The other thing is that even though the stage costumes are four-piece sets, they only count as one item in your design scrapbook, which is also awesome. It's great having them only take up one space. Some definite improvements from Fashion Forward!

Anyway, here are my new Shopdo outfits.

Outfit #1. I always have to include something lolita.
Outfit #2. Finally managed to get this gorgeous dress (from someone else's Shopdo), so I thought I'd put it out there for anyone else who's been impatiently waiting for it to show up in the exhibition hall. Next Shopdo update will hopefully include an outfit with those lovely butterfly shoes. I just need to get some stuff that actually goes with them...
Outfit #3. Purple Moon stuff showing up in my Shopdo was inevitable. I put my own spin on the cow outfit, just because.

So, one last thing for this post. It's something I've been thinking about doing since I created the blog, and now that I've got a few active readers, I figured I might as well bring it up.

One of the unfortunate things about Miiverse shutting down is that it meant no more contests, so...I was thinking about holding contests here. The question is, is that something that would interest you guys? After all, there's no point in holding contests if no one's going to enter them. And then the second question would be whether you guys are interested in hosting any contests, either on your own blogs or on this one. I mean, ideally I'd like to actually participate in some of the contests instead of always being the host...

Er, anyway, that's it for today's post. Opinions down below, please?

(Also, the next post won't have anything to do with Shopdo or Design Centre, I promise.)

  1. Oliver's surprisingly good-looking, isn't he? Anyways, I'll be sure to pop by your Shopdo later today!

About holding contests, I think that's a wonderful idea and it's got me pumped. I really hate myself right now for not getting involved with the community sooner before Miiverse shut down, so it would be great for people like me who love the game and want a place to gather with other fans. If we could somehow promote these blog contests I bet we could get something started (wishful thinking?).

Just to throw some ideas out there, maybe the winner of a contest is responsible for hosting the next contest on their blog, so that way everyone can participate. Or maybe pick randomly from one of the participants who didn't win, so they get to host the next one.

    1. "Surprisingly good looking", haha! Well, he IS a model, after all :P

I'm glad you're on board! Miiverse was shockingly great, I really wish I'd gotten to spend more time on there. From what I've seen, tumblr seems to have the biggest Style Savvy community now, so if we wanted to promote these contests, that'd probably be the place to do it. I'll also leave a comment over on Mel's blog for when she returns from the void, and see if I can get in contact with Kiwii, Homura, and Eliz.

I wish Styling Star's multiplayer had a messaging system of some sort. That'd be really useful in a fandom as small as this one!

Having the winner host the next contest is a good idea! Though having it be volunteer-based is probably more practical. Maybe make a rule that the same person can't host twice in a row, to keep things balanced? And if anyone wants to host who doesn't have a blog of their own...well, I'll figure something out.

I dunno, I haven't really put that much thought into it yet. I wanted to wait until I actually got some people on board.

    2. ...You got me there. :P

At least you were active on Miiverse, I never used it at all and regret it massively! I do have a very dusty Tumblr account, so I could put it to some use again when the time comes.

I also wish you could talk to other players! So many times I've wanted to tell people their outfits are great and connect with them, but there's no way to do it.

We might need to establish a judging criteria at some point, to make sure that everyone is judged consistently and fairly. I've also been looking into free forums and community blogs and such. Depending on the number of people we attract, opening one of those could be great, but we don't need to worry about that anytime soon. Just something to keep in mind for if/when we get a lot of participants.

    3. That wording got a good laugh out of me, heehee.

Yeah, it's a shame. I'm sure our little community would've benefited from having you around :)

I'm not sure that a consistent judging criteria for every contest is needed. In fact, I think it'll be more interesting without. The host just needs to be upfront about what the criteria are for each particular contest. At the very least, I think that we should hold a few contests before we try to establish anything like that. You know, get a feel for things.

A forum and/or community blog is a great idea! In fact, I'd had the passing thought before that a dedicated forum was something this fandom needed. That would have to wait, of course, but the community blog is something we could do now, even. And it'd be the perfect place to hold contests!

We should definitely message the people I mentioned before and see if we can get them involved in this discussion. Since you already have a tumblr account, would you mind trying to message Eliz for me? Hers is http://olympia756.tumblr.com

You don't have to, of course.

    4. Re judging criteria: Good point. I agree with trying out a few contests and seeing how things go.

About a community blog, I did a little research and I don't think we have many options, since it would require paid hosting and all that. One solution would be to create a blog and then add people as authors, to turn it into a multi-author blog. Either Blogger or Wordpress will work, though I prefer Wordpress because it's easier to manage. When we hit the point where there's just too many people, then I think it would be more effective to switch to a forum. Proboards provides free forums, so that's something to consider.

I'm active in web design, so I'd be more than happy to help set things up. Don't expect too much fancy magic with free blog accounts though, lol.

I've messaged Eliz for you and pointed her to your blog. I hope the message went through, because shortly after I sent it, Tumblr went down. In any case, I'll keep an eye out for any replies. If you need me to try messaging her again, just let me know, it's no problem.

    5. I mean, that's kinda what I was thinking of, anyway, so that works.

If you could do most of the work of setting it up, then that would actually be wonderful, because I still have no clue what I'm doing lol as for blogger vs wordpress, I've never used wordpress, so I can't say I have an opinion. We can have others chime in, but if you're the one setting things up for the most part, then you should have final say, anyway.

Thanks! I've messaged everyone else, so I guess now we just wait.

I figure once we get one or two more people on board, we can start trying out some contests. Probably just start out on our personal blogs instead of jumping right in on a group one? And I'll host the first one, of course, since it was my idea.

    6. I agree that it's best to see how things go on personal blogs first, and then later on everyone can decide whether or not to make the jump to a group blog.

Now it's just the waiting game, huh? I have to admit, I'm pretty excited!

    7. I hope you see this comment! Wasn't sure where to post it so I decided to keep it organized and put it here.

I was digging through Tumblr a bit and finally hit a jackpot. Check this link here: http://boutique-ribbon.tumblr.com/link
Seems like there's already been some communities set up. I'm surprised they have a Discord server, but I'm pretty busy IRL and I don't think I'd have time to chat with people. What's really interesting is the Amino community, I like the way it's set up (except for some clutter on the right hand side) and it seems to be active.

I actually don't like Tumblr all that much. I get so tired of having to scroll through countless posts of cute animals and other things to get to the stuff I actually want to see.

    8. I used to follow that tumblr, it's great! I'm a member of the discord but don't use it much. It's mainly lots of meme posting and people talking about random stuff. Didn't know there was an amino community.

    9. Little chance of me not seeing comments, I check for new ones several times a day. Still always late on replying to them, though...

I actually already knew about the amino community, though I'd forgotten about it until now. Some people brought it up on miiverse as a place to potentially migrate to. Unfortunately, I don't have a smartphone or anything, so while I can browse the community, I can't actually participate. Not really interested in the discord server. Thanks for the link, though :)

I've never used tumblr much myself, but I am thinking of creating an account, if only for advertising purposes >.>

    10. The amino community is smartphone only? Ugh. I have a smartphone but I only turn it on when I go out, lol. It's just so much easier for me to do everything on the computer. But it would be another good advertising spot, so I wouldn't mind signing up.

The Google+ hangout is so cluttered with posts that it makes my head hurt.

As Marzipanini said, there's quite a lot of stylists on Tumblr, so if you posted something on there it would definitely get seen at the very least.

    11. Yeah, amino is mobile only :/ which is stupid, but whatever.

I'm definitely with you on preferring to do everything on the computer. In fact, my dad asked me a few years back if I wanted a tablet and I believe my exact response was "No, I'd rather have a computer."

    12. You're not missing much if you don't join the discord server. I have no clue about amino but I've heard it can be notoriously bad sometimes in certain communities like art ones. I did know it was an app though just like everything is an app nowadays. With apps, I only really use fitbit, instagram and some korean language ones.

  2. Nice to see you completed the game!
Those costumes for Rosie, Yolanda, and Alina, all look great!
As for the guys, in my game, they're wearing Nintendo 64 shirts in that end credits pic, and the costumes for Rosie, Yolanda, and Alina, also have the N64 logo on them. I'll be putting them on Shopdo!

    1. Oh, and the group is called Starrings. I picked a name that's similar to the Stylettos. :P
So, if both of these groups come together, take both names, and you get "Styletto Starrings"!

    2. Glad that you like them! The guys were originally wearing the practice shirts I made, but I deleted it to make room for the costumes, so now they're just wearing generic pink t-shirt...which, to be fair, actually look less ridiculous on them than the shirts I designed lol

I look forward to seeing those! And Starrings is a cute name :)

Also, I actually asked you to check out this post so that I could get your opinion on the contest thing...

    3. Oh, the contests! Yeah, good idea! Would love to see contests here. I miss the contests from the Style Savvy communities on Miiverse.

    4. Cool! I figured you'd be on board, but I wanted to be sure. Any opinions on how go about it?

    5. I think the contestants could probably put their links to their outfits as a comment on the contest post, but I'm not sure, as some people may not have a way to host their images.

    6. Well yeah, that's what I figured. And there are plenty of free image-hosting sites (or even stuff like twitter), so I don't see how that part would be a problem.

Also, Iriye brought up the possibility of starting a community blog at some point. I think that's a great idea, but what about you?

  3. Congrats on finishing the main story line!!!

In regards to contests, I've never done any or been interested myself. They seem like a fun idea though! Outside of blogging, my life is pretty busy so I don't think I'd personally have the time to run any contests. Tumblr has a great community that I'd recommended looking into. I used to be part of it years ago, but I no longer use tumblr as I felt I had grown out of it and didn't have the time to manage it anymore.

    1. I mean, I'd assume that even just the three blogs are pretty time consuming! If you don't have the time or interest to participate, that's fine :) but you're always welcome to join in if you ever want to.

Yeah, tumblr does seem to have the biggest Style Savvy community now that miiverse is gone. And it seems to be a pretty chill community, which is a relief, since, well...it's tumblr.

I am considering making an account.

    2. It can be time consuming running three blogs, I don't know how I do it haha. My work schedule is becoming busier soon so I wouldn't have the time for contests. Plus I'm not very creative with outfit ideas for contests so I've never really participated in them when Miiverse was around.

Tumblr is the biggest I've found. I follow a few instagrams but there isn't much interaction. The community on tumblr is pretty good and everyone is friendly. Haha yes tumblr does have a bit of a reputation. I found if you just stuck to your interests and avoid toxic accounts, it's quite a pleasant experience. I just felt too old to use it and was originally on there to follow kpop blogs but once they shut down, I didn't use it much.

    3. Like I said, it's fine if you can't participate :)

Yeah, tumblr CAN be great, you just have to browse carefully. Kinda like how youtube is great as long as you avoid the comment section. That's the internet for you, I guess.
